Lori was born in Soda Springs, Idaho and grew up in Pocatello, Idaho. She now lives in St. Anthony, Idaho, a small community of about 3,100 people.
Lori and her husband share their home with a cat and assorted small creatures that came for a handout and stayed, including a gentled squirrel, a skunk, a rabbit and birds. All co-exist peacefully and politely.
Lori has always felt a kinship with animals, particularly birds. As a child, she knew she could fly if she could only convince the birds to reveal their secret.
She spent hours making paper wings and tails, running and jumping, in an attempt to become airborne. Her step-father told her that if she could sprinkle salt on a bird's tail it would tell her how to fly. The secret, he said, was to be very quiet, patient and observant.
Stalk and study the bird carefully. If it flew before she could salt it, watch it fly - it's teaching.
Lori's flying experiments were curtailed~and her life no doubt saved - when her mother caught her climbing the apricot tree to the garage roof in full flight gear.
Thanks, Mom!
Lori's artistic pursuits were fostered by her step-father, a talented pencil artist. She worked mainly in pencil and pen-and-ink. About the time her step-father was diagnosed with a terminal illness, Lori began to learn bird carving. It became her therapy when he passed away in 1986.
In a bittersweet way, Lori finally found her "wings".
Lori has been carving since 1986 and has sculptures in private collections in numerous states.
Her work is sold primarily by commission.
